Update 23.09.2014

In news that's not really news (see our previous articles, including this one which is written more than 2 months ago), Blizzard officially announced the cancellation of Titan. Check the Polygon article for all the quotes. I'll look through them and come back with some comments if I find anything interesting.

================================

I've started this website approximately 3 years and 3 months ago (time sure flies!), with the goal of covering Blizzard's upcoming "next-gen MMO". As a gamer focused mainly on MMOs and a wannabe web dev / syadmin, it was an ideal part-time hobby.

Well, it still very much is, however a small problem occurred meanwhile. The game went missing.

As mentioned in the previous article, all signs point to the fact that Blizzard is no longer looking at developing a grand-scale MMO, at least not in the immediate future. Not even a small-scale MMO, although they definitely seem to be focusing on smaller scale games, as both Overwatch and the other unknown project (Metal Arms?) are rumored to be projects similar to Hearthstone when it comes to time / resource investment.

While I'm still very much interested in Blizzard's upcoming projects, the company behind a game does not matter that much to me, as long as the project sounds interesting. Not to mention that I'm not a huge fan of Blizzard's latest developments regarding their 3 big franchises, or in the case of Starcraft, the lack of any developments (shots fired).

 New Direction

Taking the above into account, I'm officially looking for a new MMO to sink my teeth in and focus on. If Overwatch somehow will fit the bill when announced this year, then great! If not, no problem, I'm sure something else will come up. Tips and suggestions are always appreciated regarding this. The criteria for this new game would be the following:

  • MMO or highly multiplayer-focused game.
  • New Franchise.
  • Freshly announced, however not vaporware. Titan was enough tyvm.

 Meanwhile...

Until we find this new magical game, the website will be in a transitional period. What this means exactly:

  • Getting ready for the release of IPB4. This is the software the website is based on and it is about to receive a major upgrade. I've already moved the website onto a more robust and better maintained server, however once the software is upgraded I'm also planning a major redesign. ETA for this is until the end of the year, depending on when IPB4 launches (the devs are almost worse than Blizzard when it comes to sticking to deadlines).
  • While still keeping an eye out for any relevant Titan news, unless anything spectacular pops up, nothing of this sort will probably get posted. You may see articles regarding post-Titan conclusions, new MMOs, or other MMO related content. As always though, anything goes on the forums.
  • The Twitter feed will become much more active, regarding MMO and gaming news. It will also be the easiest way to stay up-to-date with any website developments, so do follow if you are interested in what's next for TF or just hand-picked MMO news.

This transitional period also means that I'm even more open to suggestions than usual, no matter how crazy. Drop me an email, a private message or just leave a comment if you have any on your mind.

Although I am somewhat sad that Titan is - more likely than not - dead. I am excited for the future. I too am after an MMO that I can sink my teeth into for years like I did when I started playing WoW. Preferably I am after a sandbox game and I am keeping an eye on CCP Games. They had a World of Darkness MMO in the pipeline that got cancelled, now their only franchise is EVE. I am looking forward to the possibility of another CCP MMO or MMO in general to the standard of EVE being released.

Same here, I am definitely looking forward to where it is going (though my hype did fall off for a while)

Sad that this had to happen but it DID need to happen so we can all move on :) can't wait to see what we will be obsessing about next and obviously we will still be following the remnants of what's left of titan.

When I orignally joined up with TF, it was so I could be on the brink of information regarding the next big MMO. Naturally I thought this would be released by Blizzard. But then investing so much time and energy into Titan made me drift away from the thought of looking for the next great MMO, to focusing solo on Titan, in any form that it might take.

I think this is a healthy move for this community and a wake up call to remind us of what we are truly looking for. I will alway be a Blizzard fanboy, and I will probably play the living Hamsters rock, Squirrels suck! out of Titan went it releases. But, its time we scope out our path. We are not a bunch of casual gamers looking for the next Hearthstone (as great as it is), but the Hardcore of the Hardcore constantly seeking out the best damn MMOs the horizan has to offer. WHOS WITH ME MEN!?... And women also ofc :p

I'm telling you guys, this is the next big (hardcore) MMO right around the corner:

The smaller-scale 64-player alpha version gets released on steam in september.

Pre-alpha tests have been going on for months now, and as a tester myself, I can tell you guys that it is... awesome.

Medieval realism, no-target combat, seemless open world, sandbox, full loot pvp.

Definitely agree :D I think that it is commonly accepted that most of us came here to find the best new, upcoming MMO, that at the time being Titan. Now I am excited for what the future may hold, whatever our next big MMO will be :)

Seems like they're currently looking to keep the EVE franchise their only franchise. Their next big game seems to be Project Legion, which is DUST514 for PC, with a ton more features and EVE-like gameplay and a higher connectivity with EVE Online itself. More info - http://www.polygon.c...ted-ccp-fanfest

I'm definitely going to start keeping a close eye on it, even if it's not a new franchise.

Will definitely play this one a lot and would have loved to cover it, unfortunately though we missed the start, by 15 years. :D With so much history behind it and with me knowing practically zero regarding it (haven't touched Everquest 1,2), not sure I could cover it as I'd like to.

Looks pretty interesting, even if it's not necessarily a top candidate for switching the website to. How does one get to test it?

I dont have much to say. Just want yall to know I'm with you. I think Blizz really have to announce something good this year.. I've been waiting since vanilla 2007. This year marks 10 years since World of warcraft has been out. Surely now is the time for the next big thing?

I would agree. This year seems like an excellent time to announce something big, given that it is the 10 year anniversary of WoW. But we are talking about Blizzard here, who knows what they'll do?

You have to go to their website and follow the instructions, after making an account.

http://lifeisfeudal....nancially-t502/

FYI it only tests about once a week right now, but will open full time once the servers are stable enough.

It might not be appealing right now to re-direct the website to LIF (maybe because Titan was more rumor-oriented? and already had the mystique and hype of a blizzard game), but once this takes off, and it will, you can bet that people will be scrambling to be the highest authority on this game.

anyways, i think you hold too high of an expectation for the future of this website, haha! i don't personally believe that there is ANY game in the works right now or in the near future that could draw as much attention to this website as titan did. LIF is as good or better than any other second choice.

As Mynsc posted on the Twitter, Albion Online looks like an interesting concept. It looks like a sandbox Diablo in MMO form.

Personally I like the look of it.

Gosh, basically what everyone else said. It's time we move on, but it's not all bad news. We started something, saw it to the end, made some friends, and learned a lot.

I'll start thinking of ideas, but I think we all know that nothing draws as much attention as a Blizzard game in development.

Brainstorming cap is now on!

Okay.. First of all.. at the time of writing this I am drunk from drinking loads of booze at hour housewarming (we recently moved to a fantastisc house). Our guests has left the party and my mind started working on this.

I've come to realize that I've grown in terms of what I'm seeking in an MMO and what I've capable of maintaining

I've played World of Warcraft on and off since closed beta on multiple accounts - I've been there, but not really as hardcore as some of my friends and family has - and that's okay.

I'm the oldest son (got 5 younger brothers - across the whole family - father and mother are divorce -> got new husbands/wifes -> got new children , etc.) and I'm the only one to have children yet, so my sparetime has dropped because of this (real life comes first, and I really like my daughters (go two) to reminish a father that cared for them and played with them - simply had time for them, my own father left my mother when I was 5 - so I dont want to be that guy!).

I'll never grown too old for games!! But I have to  choose wisely. Games that require to much time ie. WildStar, cant get in my library because of this.

I need a game that instantly gives my a time off from the real life, but at the same time doesnt require med to sit in front of my computer 24/7 just to keep up wih my friends progression.

I have pre-purchased Warlords of Draenor, but it's really just because of the story/lore. Hey, 9 years gone, cant skip the next chapter now? It would be like watching first part of the "Lord of the rings", but not wanting to see the last two.

I recently picked up Reaper of Souls, and have gotten a character boosted - ready for Torment 2-3-ish, I really would like to play more than I do.

How is a father able to find a game that suits these requirements, while maintaining the depths of the gamplay?

Haha gratz! I'm happy for you! And I want you to see the wording on this later ^^

Balancing gaming life with family life is no different then any other hobby. For example, before I met my wife (and had kids), I was at the bar parting with friends every weekend. Everyone knew me, I got discounts on drinks, and barkeeps/waitresses gave me priority. Then I meet my wife and I usually get out with the guys about once a month. I know far less people (and even less know me), I usually pay full price, and wait for drinks like everyone else. But that doesn't mean I have less fun.

Relating this to MMOs (or just gaming), you don't always have to be on to enjoy the damn thing! That dungeon will be there for you to tackle just the same 4 weeks from now vs the day it comes out. You might not be decked out in Legendary gear, and your friends might always be ahead of the curve. However, that game is not what you are living for, its just to make life more enjoyable.

@Mynsc

we might be to late to jump on this hype train, but have you considered Star Citizen?

The key is finding a wife who will play the games with you...

and then introducing the games to your kids. That way family time = gaming time. Quite a unique opportunity we are afforded these days.
