5. Brand new franchise (sure thing)
One of the first things we learned about Blizzard's new MMO, besides that its internal name is Titan, was that it is going to be a brand new IP, with all the lore, art and design being developed from scratch. My guess is that they released this little bit of info early in order to extinguish all the rumours that were flying around, Titan being attributed to many already established universes, from CoD and Halo to Starcraft and Warcraft.
This clue is solid and reliable, being transmitted on the official forums by Zarhym, Blizzard employee and Community Manager. The exact source has been lost through time (mostly because of the new community forums that replaced the old ones), but the exact quote remains on many sites that covered the story at that time:
We have nothing to advertise for the new MMO because it's a shell of a game thus far. We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch. It's an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel. Our track record supports this.
4. With broad appeal (sure thing)
This caused a lot of buzz in its time, especially when a financial analyst got into the mix, replacing the term broad appeal used by Blizzard with casual for no good apparent reason and stirring up all kinds of reactions. I wrote a detailed article about this then, politely recommending him to stick to his numbers and let us, the players, do the name calling when it comes to games.
Fact is Blizzard has never used the word casual in relation to Titan. Below are the 2 quotes that we have on this subject.
We think that the reach of that product is greater than anything that we've done before. We're very excited about that. I believe that it's the type of game that will have a very long life, much like World of Warcraft has. Source
3. Release date (medium)
What we've announced at Blizzard is that we have Starcraft coming, Diablo has been in production...and a new, unannounced MMOG that has a little more broad appeal. Source
I'll be short here, since I talked about this subject in GREAT detail in a previous article. The main clue we have about this (but not the only one) is of course the leaked chart, that so far has been 100% correct.
2. SciFi Universe (high)
Sure, we previously found out it's going to be a brand new universe... but this doesn't exactly leave us with few options. Thanks to a bit of healthy speculation and a couple of generous quotes, we gained a sense of the general direction Blizzard's new world is taking. And it's absolutely awesome!
So is Blizzard's new MMO going to be sci-fi, near-future, post-apocalyptic or historical? "All of those combined!" he said, laughing. Source
You can check the above linked article for a lot more on this.
shifting tectonic plates, raising Atlantis, and reviving Teotihuacan. Damn I love my job. Source
1. FPS with a twist (medium)
The most interesting clue in my opinion comes in the form of an apparent leak, reported by a french site (Blizzard has a regional HQ near Paris, so it's not that surprising).
It not only hints at a FPS style, but also gives a heavy social feel to the new game. Here's an accurate translation:
This pretty much sums up the main tidbits of info we have about Titan at present. You could argue that it's more than a top 5 in the sense that it covers pretty much all we know about the game, but there still are some quotes and hints here and there that add something to the entire picture. Do you guys know of others that you think should be included here?
In this new MMO, each player would have two "lives": the first one is a sort of Sims Online, a giant hub of social interaction and the possibility of connecting with his second life. One which will consist of first person combat.
