2011 recap; 2012 predictions; Happy Holidays to everyone!
Hey everyone! As you hopefully know, 2011 is on its last few days, so I think it's time to take a look back at what happened on the Titan front and also launch some predictions for 2012.
All things considered, it's been a very quiet year: almost zero official info from Blizzard, no real Titan specific leaks (this was the "biggest", although not really a true leak) and a community that is still very, very small and fragile (for example, 6 months ago I knew of 4 fansites, TF included... while now this is the only one still standing).
On Titan Focus, it all started with the Mists of Pandaria find. The traffic and attention generated by this made me kick the site into gear and TF has been constantly growing and changing since then.
The highlight of the year was definitely Blizzcon, even if Titan received only 5 minutes of attention during the 2 days of events. If you're interested to know exactly what we got from it, check out the recap I did (last entry is the most interesting one) and my post-event conclusions.
Lack of info should never be an obstacle though, especially when speculating is so much fun! And I certainly did a lot of that.
I've put a lot of thought into all the "what if" articles and even if they are based on assumptions and subtle hints derived from various unofficial sources, I stand by all of them. Here are some of the more interesting ones:
Now back to the future! Considering the Titan "rollercoaster" hasn't really started yet, we've got all the reasons in the world to be excited about what's on the horizon.
It is my opinion that, as we go deeper into 2012, things will start to become very interesting.
The first several months will probably be pretty quiet (I'd love to be proven wrong though). With Diablo's postponed launch and Mists of Pandaria's sooner than usual launch (I'm going with June / July), Blizzard will have its hands full and won't feel any real need to unleash their new MMO into the world. It could actually be very hurtful for WoW if Titan gets announced right before the MoP expansion launches.
This being said, it doesn't mean we won't get any new info. As a project matures, more and more people become involved with it, there's more content that needs to be kept private and the impulse to share becomes more and more dominant. So who knows what nice surprises we'll have.
These months will probably be the last few moments of real quiet in Titan's history. Even if Rob Pardo said a Blizzcon 2012 announcement is "probably unlikely", this is definitely something that's not set in stone. I'm confident that if their production process goes relatively smoothly, towards the end of 2012 we're going to start getting a lot more info. I'd actually dare say that, one way or another, by the time Blizzcon 2012 finishes, we'll at least know Titan's real name.
Concerning Titan Focus, it will be a very busy year. I'm learning a lot from this experience and almost daily I get new ideas that I want to implement. I've already started to work on some of the tools I want to have on the site when Titan info starts pouring in and this will probably occupy the bulk of my free time.
I'm also in the process of re-structuring my news sources and better organizing all the info I gather. While it's not a really critical issue right now, I want to be more than ready when everything will go into fifth gear.
That's about it for the past and future. As for what's happening right now, I'd like to say a big Thank You to everyone that's been staying close to this site... I really appreciate your support and know that I'll always do my best to provide you guys the latest news, opinions, guides, etc!
I hope you all have a great time during the Holidays and a fantastic New Year!
