Titan @ Blizzcon - Short Analysis and Predictions

With Blizzcon less than a month way, I think it's the perfect moment to assess Titan's chances of making an appearance. I'll start by taking a look at two of the major hints we have related to this.

First of all, it's important to revisit the last Blizzcon, from two years ago, and see what happened then. The "show" actually started a month before the convention, as news sites started speculating that we'll see an official announcement during Blizzcon. At that point, Bashiok decided to step in and mention that no, there won't be any Titan unveiling, which in the end proved to be true.

During the event itself, no mention of Titan was made until the very end. In the absolute last interview shown on the live stream, Rob Pardo finally approached the subject and gave us a few phrases of info. Not much, however enough to keep the ball rolling and keep us occupied for quite a bit. :)

The second factor that might play an important role in how much air-time Titan receives is the amount of space that needs to be reserved for the already announced games. And looking at this, it's probably going to be the busiest Blizzcon in history.

Two of the major three franchises have expansions to show-off (Diablo and World of Wacraft). And that's not to say Starcraft 2 won't make an appearance, as there is a "small" tournament called the WCS Global Finals which will take place throughout the entire weekend.

However, there is even more! I wouldn't be surprised if HearthStone will have its official launch during Blizzcon or at least having a date announced for it. Regardless of this, since the game is already hugely popular, everyone will want to ask questions about it and I'm sure the Blizzard folks have already put time aside in order to answer them.

And if this was not already enough, the mysterious Blizzard All-Stars is screaming to get out (or rather we're screaming for it to come out) and even by Blizzard time, its announcement is way overdue. With the "Heroes of the Storm" trademark confirmed, it's really looking like the info gates will finally be blown open on this project.

These two factors considered and also adding to the equation the elephant in the room, unfortunately the chances are not good for Titan to make a noteworthy appearance at this year's Blizzcon. The pre-show period is already much more calm than two years ago. Nobody is even bothering to ask if Titan will be there as the answer is pretty clear in most people's minds. For all we know, the game is actually in a less advanced state than two years ago, "thanks" to the recent reset.

That being said, looking at the optimistic side as well, there are hints that development on the project might have restarted. Blizzard also "owes" us a better explanation as to what exactly happened to the project and when we'll hear about it again. It's in their best interest I believe to keep Titan on everyone's radar, as it adds a certain degree of hope and excitement in relation to the company's future, so they should be looking to clear the surrounding waters a bit.

With the analysis out of the way (let me know in the comments if you have something else to add), it's time we jump to the fun part! Predictions! :o

Below you can find mine. If you have any others to add or don't agree with the chances, let me know in the comments and I'll input yours in as well. It's not a full-on contest, however it will be pretty fun to see how wrong we were after Blizzcon passes! :)

Also guys, TF will be represented at Blizzcon, thanks to some of our awesome members that managed to snag tickets: EremitejonnyshizSarnakyle (and special "guest" appearances from sayaf and Velocity). They've been kind (and awesome) enough to put themselves at your disposal so do let them know if you have any requests in mind. They don't even have to be remotely reasonable! If not, wish them a splendid weekend and tell them how much you envy them! :)

Damn I wish I could be there, I plan on going either next year or the year after though! :D

I'm so happy again, without even reading it! New stuff on screeeeen!

Brb, reading it :D

Titan officially announced 0.0

Status update from Rob Pardo, just before the end 10.0

Alpha / beta / launch estimate 0.0

Clarification on some of the rumors we've heard this year:

not a brand new franchise, will be out on consoles, Jay Wilson working on it, etc. 3.0

A sign that Jeffrey Kaplan is still alive. 5.0

Concept Art 0.0

Any other tease 0.0 (assuming just saying half of a sentence about it doesn't count as a tease)

So... I believe we will hear a tiny bit about it, or what happened to it (more about reset), but I think there's pretty much 0% chance of anything fancy.

You're probably right. :D

I'm just very afraid to hype myself and then be disappointed, better other way around. (D3 was my big lesson)

Alright, here are my Titan predictions:

Titan officially announced 0.0

Status update from Rob Pardo, just before the end 10.0

Alpha / beta / launch estimate 1.0

Clarification on some of the rumors we've heard this year:

not a brand new franchise, will be out on consoles, Jay Wilson working on it, etc. 2.0

A sign that Jeffrey Kaplan is still alive. 9.0

Concept Art 0.0

Any other tease 0.0 (assuming just saying half of a sentence about it doesn't count as a tease)

This years Blizzcon is stacked but like every year when Rob or some other top dog sits at the interview desk and asnwers some of the questions of fans from forums/twitter etc there will be at least one question about Titan. And this is what I believe will be the only time Titan will be mentioned.

But I am so pumped for this years Blizzcon, even without Titan there is so much awesomess to go around:

- Hearthstone release date + Kripp winning the HS invitational.

- Watching Mvp winning the SC2 tournament.

- Hopefully something about SC2 LoTV.

And my favourite moment will be when they show the crowd just before they unveil the next big trailer and suddenly you see Johnny, Eremite and Sarn standing up going "WE WANT BALLS. WE WANT BALLS" and the whole crowd joins them :)

Love that there is some fresh content on the page! Great post, I hope I can get some cool info for us TF'ers whist at Blizzcon. I'll do my best!

As far as predictions go, I don't think Titan will be announced at all. I could see it possible that they at least mention the state of the game, or some kinda info just to let everyone know it's not completely dead.

/edit Also - I would be so happy if us 3 made it on camera, hahah!

I'm thinking we'll hear absolutely nothing about Titan unless someone is able to corner Rob Pardo into giving a statement.  In that case I think he'll give brief statements covering all the bases.  So I gave a 5 to any kind of status update, averaging the all or nothing view I have right now.

Titan officially announced: 0

Status update from Rob Pardo, just before the end: 5 - Nothing, unless an interviewer presses him on it (Here's our chance!)

Alpha / beta / launch estimate: 1

Clarification on some of the rumors we've heard this year: 1

A sign that Jeffrey Kaplan is still alive: 1

Concept Art: 0

Any Other Tease: 1

Omg you guys are boring! Where's the hype, the crazy theories, the sense of adventure? :D

I mean yeah, you're probably right, but even so, I'm still hoping to see some other crazy predictions by the time Blizzcon starts. ;)

Yeah, as much as I'd like to... Guess I'm more curious to find out about the new WoW xpac :ermm: And finally getting to play Hearthstone.

Any other tease 8.5/10

If not full status update they will give litle something to tease us

Status update from Rob Pardo, just before the end 8/10

Well they did it last year and now after the restart i would guess they are going to update status

Clarification on some of the rumors we've heard this year:
not a brand new franchise, will be out on consoles, Jay Wilson working on it, etc.
5/10

Not sure about else but they could clarify if it is new brand or old brand

A sign that Jeffrey Kaplan is still alive. 8/10

Well if he is hired i don't think they are paying him for doing nothing so...

For the rest i would probably give around 0-1.

my predictions

Titan needs to be officially announced before they give an alpha/beta estimate, if i'm not mistaken.  There would be nothing to an alpha if there wasn't a game attached.

It's silly that you guys think an alpha ESTIMATE is more likely than the game being ANNOUNCED.

I'll be totally wrong but...   :p

Looking at the Blizzcon schedule, I think it's safe to say that there isn't any room left for a Titan surprise. Which means that the 0% chance of it being officially announced, well, stays at 0%.

edit: Thanks for the predictions so far. I'll add yours in ThunderGod as soon as I get home from work tonight.

yep no problem ^^

and yep 0% remains 0% xD maybe we could hear something in "wow, what's next?" panel (i know it'll be about the next xpac but who knows) or in the wow Q&A or in the closing ceremony

anyway, this is gonna be an interesting blizzcon!

Titan @ Blizzcon:

It has been a minute since I have posted and its for a valid reason; despite the joy I would get out of seeing a glimps of titan at blizzcon chances are so close to zero its not even funny, Heres why...

We all know that blizzcon last year was canceled due to extensive work on other projects. The work load of last year is relatively the same as this year for Blizzard with all the expansions being worked on and All-Stars. So chances are they will have little time to focus on a project that they haven't even gotten to an alpha stage none the less being rebuilt from the ground up yet again. It would be counter productive for them to announce a franchise that has been 'restarted' several times. Who knows, maybe they will get it to another 'playable' stage and scrap it once more. They might even trash the game all together like they did starcraft ghost.

As for bringing it up at Blizzcon, I am sure they won't release but a few bytes of information regarding the current status of titan and surely information that we already know. But Titan will remain on the back burner until blizzard figures out what they want to do with Titan.

Hopefully we can get some proper information but I remain skeptical.

Something I have noticed is that a lot of people have been saying 'it is bad PR to not disclose any information on a product people are raving about'. It is actually the contrary. They have allowed natural leaks to be the PR. It builds the hype and gives fans the ability to continue 'guessing' at what the game will be; keeping the gears churning.

So point blank I have been idle on Titan Focus because I see no foreseeable information being released about the game. I will watch blizzcon this year but its not because of the chance info on Titan will be released because honestly I don't foresee anything important coming from blizzard.

Sincerely Yours,

Secret Squirrel

I don't think that Titan will be announced this year. There're too many other interesting things as already mentioned:

- WoW Expansion,

- Diablo III Expansion,

- Heroes of the Storm (AKA Blizzard All-Stars),

- Hearthstone,

- Warcraft movie etc.

I believe that we'll get some generic info from Rob Pardo like "Yes, we're still working on the game. Its concept has been re-vamped and we're just re-arranged our team. We're in the middle of the production process etc."
